Research and planning: Draft of advert

The drafting process has been beneficial to the group and I because it allowed us to gain feedback on how we can improve each draft in order to ensure our final advert is of high standard and is appealing to our target audience as well as it containing all the necessary information

Draft 1:

Good Points:

- Good Typography
- Theme is portrayed well
- Colours look good
Bad Points:

- Image of artist isn't clear
-  Add more key information
- Make ancillary more consistent

Draft 2:

Good Points:

- Artist well represented
- Use of conventions are consistent
-Good typography

Bad Points:

- Make sure text isn't on the image of the artist
- Increase text size

For our final product we needed to insure our advert contained all the right information such as the artist name, some key singles that are popular, image of the artist, the album name, the release date and where it can be downloaded.

Research and planning - digipak : Drafts of digipak

The drafting process has been beneficial to the group and I because it allowed us to gain feedback on how we can improve each draft in order to ensure our final digipak is of high standard and is appealing to our target audience as well as it containing all the necessary information.

The drafts:

Draft 1 -

Good Points
- The colour scheme is good
- Star image is good on the inside cover

Bad Points

-Make  Artist and album name clearer
- Add in key info
- Change inside CD
- Ancillary isn't constant

Draft 2 -

Good Points:
- Images and conventions are consistent
- Advert idea is consistent
- Tracks are written well

Bad Points

- the front cover and the inside image need to have the same effect
- front and back cover look two different colours
- Add production images to the back
- Make CD insert more simple

For our final product we had to ensure that our digipak included all the important information such as the artist name, images of the artist, list of the track list, a barcode, name of the album and the name and logo of the record label.

Final product - Sinead ft Lorenzo - Babylon

question 1

question 2

Evaluation question 3: What have learnt from your audience feedback?

1) Discuss how during the initial planning stages you carried out a question:

During the stages of planning I carried out a questionnaire with questions asking the audience questions that relate to my production. The feedback from this helped me with my production as I was able to find out what my target audience wanted to see in my music video.
I created these questionnaires to receive feedback from my target audience.

Key questions:

1- Do you think there should be a lot of interaction between the male and female characters?
2- What do iconography do you expect to see?
3- How do you expect an R'n'b artist to be represented?
4-How do you expect a Rap artist to be represented?

How did you use this to help make your decisions?

I looked at how many people said the same/ similar things and tried my best to incorporate these things into my video.

2) The importance of critical feedback once the production has been made:

Critical feedback is important because it allows me to acknowledge the things I did wrong, why it happened and how I could have done it better.

3) Link of video on youtube:

Why did you put your work on youtube?

We put our work on youtube to make it available for everyone to see it, for people to leave feedback comments and for it to get marked

 Positive comments:

" Artist well represented" Chris Johnson
"Editing was great, made it engaging" Sarah brown

 negative comments:

"sometimes the low key lighting made it hard to see clearly"

What did you learn from audience feedback?

I learnt that characters were well represented and represented the narrative well. Also, I think the editing contributed a lot to making our video successful. We could have use lighting that was a bit more of a higher key in order for it to look more clearer.

4)Focus group

Why did you hold a focus group?

We held a focus group to showcase our finished video to an audience and listen to feedback they gave.

*Soundcloud recordings*

From the feedback I learnt that our video was successful in portraying the narrative and the characters were represented well, however, the quality of the video in terms of lighting wasnt great, which has a lot to do with the quality of the cameras we used. Also, it was hard to make the prison scene look realistic, although I think we pulled it off well we could have thought of another idea for a location to make the overall video more realistic and powerful.

Conclusion:

I used different media products to try to promote my video as much as possible in order to receive as much detailed feedback as possible. Looking back I would agree with a lot of the feedback i got such as the feedback on the lighting and how it could have been a bit more clearer. If i could do my video again this would definitely be something i would change, however i would still keep it a bit low as i feel it really set the tone and mood of the video.

Planning: Editing Techniques

1. Jump Cuts
We will be using jump cuts throughout the video and a lot of the jumps will be hitting the beat of the music, this is simply used for effect. The shots will jump from character to character especially in the opening and the ending of the video. This will be used to introduce the different characters in the beginning and to show their different narratives at the end. This will help the audience to keep track of each storyline and have a better understanding of the video.

2. Slow paced editing
We will be using slow paced editing when the music is moving at a slower pace so the editing can match the pace of the music. For example in the first verse the artist is singing calmly and slowing so the editing will be calm as it makes more sense to the video and doesn't confuse the audience.

3.Rewind
We will be using rewind on our female star whilst she is preforming. For example there will be parts where she may stroke her hair behind her ear and the editing might rewind it. This is to create an abstract effect keeping the audience excited and engaged.

4. Fast paced editing
This will be used when the pace of the music speeds up in order for the editing to match the music. This is mostly when the Kendrick starts to rap and the couple start to become violent. This is to excite the audience and make the situation look more dramatic.
